About

My name is Kira Mead and I live in Albany Western Australia.

I make Rugs, commonly know as Standing Wool Rugs or Quillies, that can also be used as wall hangings. Be aware when considering a piece for the floor that they sit 3cm high and are not suitable for a high traffic area. A more suitable use would be out of the way for decoration for a large surface or to be sat on.

I was inspired to make rugs when I found an image of Tejo Remy & Ren’e Veenhuizen’s” Accidental Carpets”. I didn’t want to copy their amazing carpet, but come up with designs that were uniquely mine. At the time I had not heard of Standing Wool Rugs or Quillies and did not want to describe them as an Accidental Carpet, as they are very much planned. When I was discovered by The Australian Rugmakers Guild (of which I am now a member), they named me the “Accidental Rugmaker”. A title I am more than happy to wear with pride.
